Despite drop in infant mortality rate, 7,000 die every day, -UN report

Rising Newborn death rates urges that the prevalence of inequalities must be reversed to achieve the UNSDGs.

 

Despite a drop in infant mortality rates below the age of five, newborns deaths are rising. Greater prevention requires enhanced information and technologies, especially in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Access to the information and technologies already available remains a major obstacle in these areas. The best measure of universal, affordable, quality health coverage is accessibility, according to Tim Evans, Senior Director of the Health Nutrition and Population at the World Bank Group. Although the report outlines the progress achieved, the prevalence of inequalities must be reversed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
