Sustainable Development Goal #10 Reduced Inequalities
Reduce inequality within and among countries
Equal access to health, education, and employment opportunities is necessary for social and economic development. The least developed countries need preferential trade treatment, development assistance, and greater representation in global trade policy and international financial institutions. Policies that reduce inequalities of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic status help people lift themselves out of poverty. The most vulnerable areas, including small island nations and landlocked countries, require external assistance to achieve sustainable development.

Why It Matters

Inequalities undermine the ability to contribute to a productive economy. The most disadvantaged are excluded from opportunities that threaten their resilience. Income inequality is rising in many developing countries. This leads to higher rates of crime, greater environmental harm, and a higher probability of preventable disease or death. Economic policies and social protection benefits are essential to guarantee access to resources for the disadvantaged.
