What the Millennium Development Goals and Promise means

Millennium Promise is the first and leading international nongovernmental organization dedicated to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ). The organization oversees the Millennium Villages Project (MVP) and other programs including the Sustainable Districts Program, Connect to Learn, the Lead Farmer Program, and the Two Million Community Health Workers   (CHW) Campaign.

Co-founded by Jeffrey D. Sachs, UN senior advisor and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and Investor-Philanthropist Raymond Chambers in 2005, Millennium Promise is focused on eradicating poverty by addressing the interrelated challenges of hunger and malnutrition, gender inequalities, disease and access to health care, poor education, and inadequate infrastructure.

Millennium Promise designs initiatives for eradicating poverty with scalable, community-led solutions that can be easily deployed across the developing world. These interventions include the alliance’s flagship Millennium Villages Project as well as food production, commercial farming, malaria control, piped water, solar electricity, and connectivity engineered at minimal cost.

The Millennium Villages Project ( MVP ) is a rural development program that coordinates community-led and economically sustainable solutions to overcome the many interconnected causes of extreme poverty. The initiative is dedicated to accelerating the sustainable development targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

MVP facilitates the deployment of science, technology, and communications solutions to implement healthcare, education, agriculture, and small business development. The Millennium Villages Project exists across 80 villages in multiple countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Blue Chip Foundation supports the Millennium Villages Project through participation in joint health and education initiatives. Donating 5,000 phones to the 1 million Community Health Worker (CHW) Campaign, Blue Chip joins Columbia University and the Millennium Promise Association to improve access to streamlined health systems delivery and improved healthcare infrastructure. The  Blue Chip Foundation  also provides dedicated scholarship funds for girls attending the Uranga Secondary School, a new female dormitory at the Uranga School, and scholarship funds for girls attending other schools in Ghana.
