More than half of children and youth worldwide ‘not learning’ – UNESCO

Failures in achieving minimum proficiency levels among children and adolescents are threatening the progress of sustainable development.

 

The highest rates of failure occur in primary school age children in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO ) two-thirds of children who fail to meet these basic proficiency levels are in classrooms. Poor quality of education, access to schools, and student retention rates are the three most significant obstacles in achieving global goals.
