UN chief reform ‘put Member States in driver’s seat’

UN chief outlines reforms that ‘put Member States in driver’s seat’ on road to sustainable development.

 

UN Chief Secretary-General Antonio Guterres shared seven reform proposals for countries to meet the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) and the Paris Climate Agreement. Included with the proposals, the Secretary-General also highlighted a request to increase agency resources and pooled funds. A Resident Coordinator system that is responsible for leading sustainable development activities throughout Member states requires additional funding to achieve basic staffing capacities. Aligned with each of the seven proposals, Mr. Guterres reiterated the theme of commitment that is necessary for achieving sustainable development .
