UN summit spotlights financial need to combat land degradation

110 countries have set voluntary national Land Degradation Neutrality targets to drive their national action plans.

 

The  Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Fund launched recently in order to reverse desertification. Coinciding with a global summit in China, the initiative is focused on raising additional investment and collaboration among stakeholders to protect existing terrestrial habitats. According to Monique Barbut, the Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), there is urgency for implementing technically proficient projects that will help reverse land degradation. Protecting lands from drought and abuse will ensure the sustainable production of food, water, and energy in these environments.
