World Childhood Foundation

All children have a right to a childhood, to safety, happiness, playfulness, and curiosity in life.

World Childhood Foundation works to prevent abuse and exploitation of children. They support and implement over 100 projects around the world, assisting children who are at risk of or are victims of abuse, children who are in alternative care, street children, and families at risk.

Childhood’s work is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and is politically and religiously unaffiliated. The goal of Childhood is that no child should be exposed to a violent or damaging environment, but instead have the opportunity to grow up with memories of a safe and loving childhood.

When Jennifer Gross met Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, founder of the World Childhood Foundation, in New York City, she decided that Blue Chip Foundation needed to partner with Childhood USA on the path to expand its reach, increase its impact, and become a recognized leader in the mission to end child abuse and exploitation by 2030. Since then, Jennifer has traveled across Sub-Saharan Africa with Dr. Joanna Rubinstein, President and CEO of Childhood USA, and has attended a number of international events in partnership with WCF, including:

  • A meeting at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican on climate change and trafficking

  • A roundtable at Columbia University on “The Role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Child Protection,” featuring experts from academia, the UN, civil society, the private sector and the Childhood-funded projects

  • A high-level meeting at the UN called “Children and the Sustainable Development Goals: Giving Every Child a Chance.”

Blue Chip’s ongoing financial support of the WCF contributes to its mission to safeguard and promote the safety and well-being of children everywhere.

The World Childhood Foundation’s work aligns with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs):

5.2 Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation

5.3 Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation

8.7 Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms

16.1 Significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere

16.2 End abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children
